On the outskirts of Kortrijk, overlooking open fields and meadows, an old barn was
carefully transformed and extended with a clean, contemporary volume by Govaert &
Vanhoutte. Atelier 10.8 was responsible for the complete interior design.
The original barn now houses the more private and intimate spaces, including the entrance,
office, living area and, upstairs, the bedrooms and bathrooms. The new extension is
dedicated to more open and social functions, with a spacious kitchen, TV area, playroom, as
well as the garage and mudroom, creating a clear dialogue between old and new.
Materials are used in a calm and thoughtful way. In the kitchen, terrazzo flooring is paired
with travertine worktops and walnut veneer. The bathroom is finished in grey Ceppo di Grés,
while the entrance is defined by handmade green terracotta tiles and a Verde Atlantico
washbasin, setting a warm and welcoming tone.
